Weather conditions: |
| Local people reported that May was cold, while June - warm and dry. July was cool with air temperature fluctuating in the range of 5-6 to 12-13øC. Rains were rare and not heavy in the middle of July, but became torrential in the last five-day period of the month.

Breeding conditions:
|
| Generally weather conditions were favourable for bird reproduction, and heavy rains in late July already did not affect nest success. Mammalian predators were absent in the study area, while avian predators (skuas and Ruff-legged Buzzards) were mostly feeding on voles which were common there. Fledglings of waders and passerines were taken by avian predators far less often than in 1998, when rodents were absent. Reproductive success of large gulls (Glaucous and West-Siberian Herring gulls) was lower than in 1998 due to regular predation on their chicks of White-tailed Eagles, that were practically not seen in 1998.

Summary
of fauna studies: |
| Counts of birds were carried out on transects in inland tundra (36 km), in coastal tundra along Yenozero lake (21 km), and on 49 islands of the total area of 220 hectare in the western part of the lake. Studies included making descriptions of found nests, identifying nesting and migration dates of certain species, and collecting information on nest success.
